On our way home from a family trip we spontaneously detoured to Chincoteague Island, we’d heard about the park, its wild ponies, and couldn’t resist.
Chincoteague Island is in VA, this island is home to a vibrant community with breathtaking natural surroundings including a pristine coast, estuary, and a nature center. In our limited time there, my family and I saw numerous wildlife together with various bird species, and a wild herd of Chincoteague ponies. Until now, I haven’t had the privilege to see ponies in a natural setting but this experience just made me want to go back. If I can take the liberty to romanticize the island a bit, I’d describe it thusly, the air seems cleaner, and the grasslands blanket the island, this prairie only pauses to make way for estuaries and breaks up into the sea.
The town itself was clean and patriotic, the people seemed nice overall, I noticed there were flags honoring different soldiers and marines, and it was a touching dedication to our service members.
We intend to return to the island another year for a more well planned trip, to spend time enjoying all the area has to offer.
