A co-worker told me, ‘you have to check out Brookfield and see the can sculptures by Harvest charity’. Well it sounded interesting and I love sculpture, since it’s near my job I decided to check it out on my lunch hour. The art installation in called Canstruction , according to their website it’s the 25th annual NY competition.
For the newcomers to this Canstruction, it’s a competition where 26 teams build something made out of food cans. The sculptures are large, eye-catching, and bring attention to issues like world hunger. The sculptures will be available for viewing at Brookfield Place from November 2nd through November 15th. See this link for details:
After the 15th the cans will be donated to City Harvest, a great charity here in NYC that helps feed many people. If you go see the sculptures bring some non-perishable food, they are accepting food donations to City Harvest at 230 Vesey (2nd level).
Another cool part of this is that the viewers can take part in the competition by voting for your favorite sculpture. The winning sculpture is awarded the People’s Choice Award. Not to sway the vote but I think my favorite was the Pokemon one or the Pac-Can.
