Upcycle Kiddie Table

This DIY takes a little elbow grease but is well worth it. My daughter was given a plastic kid table and chair set that my cousins had outgrown. It was still in great condition but I wanted to update it for multi-purpose use. A quick trip to home depot and my husband and I bought two cans of spray paint by Rustoleum, one was a white primer and the other was chalkboard spray paint.

As you may have guessed from the previous sentence I wanted the table top to be function as a chalkboard. So we decided to spray the chair and table legs and table top white, then when it dries spray the table top with chalkboard paint. We opted to leave the blue plastic parts as is because the directions on the spray paint said plastic could take a week for the paint to completely set.

Steps:

  • Clean well with a good cleaning product and hose off all soap residue, let dry completely.

  • Disassemble table and chairs (set screws aside, label if needed so you can reassemble easily)

  • Lay down a tarp. Follow spray can directions.

  • Paint (we used 2 coats)

  • For table top, spray first with primer and allow to dry for 20min. Then spray with chalkboard paint.

  • Allow to dry completely, and reassemble.

  • Buy chalk :)
