I’ve seen a couple of organizer tutorials for makeup, and recently I had a few cardboard rolls from other craft projects so I decided to try it out.
I didn’t need anything for my makeup but wanted to make a small organizer for my daughters pencils and craft supplies. This way it’s eye catching and she can access them more easily. We have other supplies for her as well but they are stored in other containers, this nifty organizer is the perfect grab and go for a kid.
I used a shoe box lid from a recently purchased pair of sneakers, cardboard rolls, contact paper which I used already on another craft project for her supplies so it was a plus that it matches. You’ll need scissors, a glue gun and your choice of trim to finish off the edges.
First take your scissors or exacto knife and cut the lid to desired length, I used about a 1/4 of the lid. Next measure out the contact paper to cover the lid.
Now measure the cardboard tube against a pencil to determine the height you want and cut it. Then measure contact paper against the roll and cut it. Snip the edges after you roll the contact paper around the cardboard so you can fold it inside the tube. Once done take your glue gun and secure the roll upright to the base. Arrange them as you see fit, I put a couple on each side.
Now glue the trim to the edges, be careful not to burn your fingers. If you have a pencil or cardboard use that to gently press the trim to the edges after you glue it so you don't burn yourself. I think another day if I get more tubes I’ll paint them white and add to this just to give more contrast to all the glitzy contact paper. My daughter is already using it, so it was well worth the 20 minutes it took to make.
