On a visit to a dollar store, I found a metal ring and all the supplies needed to make my own fall seasonal wreath. Supplies for this project cost ten dollars total and this is what I bought:
14” metal wreath ring
Mesh roll (2)
Berry (1)
Birch (1)
Various plant (1)
Maple leaves (2)
Seasonal leaves (2)
Twist ties (1 pack) -*I did not buy the twist ties this time because I upcycled some ties from the packaging that came with a toy I recently bought for my daughter.
If you do not have twist ties, you can use chenille ties, craft wire, or floral wire, any will do.
First set your metal wreath in front of you, get a general idea of how you want the final project to come out, for example do you want the ruffles bushy and full, loose or short and close to the ring. What you decide will affect the overall look of your wreath just follow your preference. I went with a medium size loop for this project. I began by unrolling the first mesh roll, I started from under the ring at a metal cross-section then made a loop through, hold the loop then take the free end of the mesh and stuff it through the next metal ring creating a second loop. It is almost like making a wave, and it does not need to look perfect at this point, you can always adjust it after you finish the first section.
Continue this stuffing and looping wave until you reach the next cross-section. Before you begin the next step, take a twist tie and poke it through your mesh at your starting point to secure the bottom loop there. This is very simple because mesh ribbon already has holes; now twist the wire onto the metal cross-section. Make sure the wire is not sticking out at the end so you or anyone admiring your wreath isn’t poked.
If you are happy with how your mesh loops look in the first section, you can take another twist tie and secure the end section. Now repeat the next part of the ring and so on. These two rolls of mesh allowed me to cover a little more than half of the 14” metal ring with loop waves.
Then I started placing the leaves and plant accents to see how I wanted them arranged, once I decided that, you guessed it – I picked up my twist ties and secured the plant stems to the meal ring. Weave the stems and hide them with other plants and behind the ring. If you have some extra details or leaf placement you want to use to cover just break out your glue gun and dab a little to secure them where you want.
Now you have a seasonal wreath, hang it on the door for all to enjoy!
