Buffy Slays Vamps & Baking

I always seem to be on the lookout for a great granola bar deal, they are a great snack and my go-to quick breakfast on the run. Recently on a trip to Whole Foods, I came across a company called, foodstirs modern baking, I never heard of this brand but they had an organic chewy oat bar mix. My inner monologue shouted “YAY!”, it happened to be on sale so I picked up a bag for $3.99. I am not certain of the full product price.

After I made the granola bars, I have to say I wish I bought more than one bag. At this store they had two different flavors on the shelf, Cinnamon Raisin and Chocolate Coconut; I opted for the Chocolate Coconut mix.

The recipe called for an 8X8 square baking pan but when I made them, I remembered I only own a rectangular pan, as a workaround I pushed the bars over to one side to what I thought was 8”. You may be able to tell from my previous sentence that I am not a whiz in the kitchen, despite my faux pas these bars still came out great, the recipe just calls for adding water and oil. Super simple, and they bake for about 25 minutes. Next time I will get a square pan, many recipes call for this type of pan, but I never think to pick up when I am out.

Despite having even the wrong size pan, the bars came out perfect and more important both my kid and me loved them. Having a semi-healthy quick snack that I know what ingredients it holds is a great fit for our family and we had fun baking them together. The ones I made yielded about 16 bars as the bag states. The chewiness didn’t last past the fourth or fifth day and got more crunchy but they were still tasty, I think if you have an airtight container it would be a different story.

I was curious about what type of other products foodstirs carries so I checked out their website, https://foodstirs.com/ I was pleasantly surprised that the company is partially owned by Sarah Michelle Gellar, she’s an actress that starred in a show I had been a big fan of called Buffy the Vampire Slayer (hence the name of this post). She and a group of friends are now killing it on the baking scene. They have some other mixes and if I cannot make the trip to Whole Foods, I can always order them on amazon. Check them out, I think it’s worth it :)
