We all know encouraging our kids is important for their self-esteem, and can reflect on how they learn to treat others.
What my daughter and I like to do is making a card, she makes me one, and in turn I make one for her. It began as just a homemade card on father's day for her daddy but soon turned into her own 'crafting' session. She takes out her construction paper, scissors, crayons, and glue stick, then gets to work. She just seems to enjoy making them, and gives me one while practicing her writing in the card (she's in kindergarten), a nice note like 'I love mommy'.
I also create my own card alongside her, so it's a nice activity we can do together, and with me being six months pregnant, it's nice to have a seated play activity. One suggestion for the parents when making the card for your child is to make them specific. Try to praise a good behavior or small thing your child did during the day by drawing a picture of it. For example if they cleared their dish from the table draw a simple picture of it and a sun or smiley face. This can be a good way to encourage these behaviors in your child more often.
Another idea which I've seen around is having your child make a card for someone outside the house, either a friend or family member. This is just a nice gesture and I think fosters thoughtfulness.
